Holliday’s over…time to play!

July 28, 2011 By Cari

My sister’s two week visit ran into my husband’s two week summer holiday so after a month away from my computer (and my book, Dancing the Maypole) I decided to refresh my memory by reading it from the start. I’m finally back to where I left off after a week and a half of editing. There were a number of things I needed to work out so that lowered my stress level. The book now has 102,075 words. I think there’s about ten thousand words to go unless the characters slap me and push me in a different direction. I’m really excited to get back into the story tomorrow and see what happens. In the mean time I wanted to share a few photos from my evening walk today. We actually had some sunshine today which was lovely. Just a brief reminder it’s summer before the next deluge.

The butterfly
The butterfly (I'm assuming its a butterfly it might be a moth for all I know). I got several lovely snaps, but I love this one...that delicate creature somehow avoiding the thorns of the bramble bush to reach the flower.
The lock
I was crouched down taking the photo and didn't see the girl walking two large dogs by...I don't know if she was smiling at me because I looked like an artist wannabe or because I just looked odd...probably the latter. I love the colour of the rust against the robin egg blue of the fence which leads into a field of corn (wheat).
Big-mamma bumblebee...
Big-mamma bumblebee. I don’t think the shot conveys how big this little lady is, but she ignored me as I leaned over and put my camera in her face. This patch of purple flowers looked like a bumblebee convention. There were all different sizes searching for the good stuff one of the others left behind. It’s amazing to see them up close…their tiny wings don’t look big enough to get them anywhere…amazing creatures! I once crash into one in a park…I wrote this at the time:
I bumped into a bumble bee today. Felt her little body crash into my arm. Momentarily dazed, she lost altitude. Did colliding with a giant cause her pain? I wondered as she flew away, Back on course, too busy to land, Too busy to venerate self pity
