A Morning Walk with the Goblin

April 24, 2010 By Cari

Burghley Park with sheep
Burghley Park and resident sheep

This morning I was actually up, fed and dressed by 9:30 so when the Goblin suggested a gentle walk in the park I put my new camera in my pocket and we trundled over to Burghley Park. It’s private property, but they open it to the public for most of the day which is lovely, but some of the public are idiots. The private road through the park is paved, but there was a new sign saying no vehicles alowed. We parked up and started walking and within a few minutes there was a roaring enguine behind us disturbing the peace and we had to jump off the road to avoid being hit by a car driven by a smiling old woman. If she thought she’d get through the park she was disapointed; the car gate was locked and she came roaring back past us still smiling. After that we left the paved road and wandered over to see the lambs, but they were on the other side of the field because another idiot family had taken their small dogs into the penned off area and let the dogs off their leads. You have to wonder about some people. Hello? Anyone home? No? Why am I not suprised! Anyway, the lambs had had enough of people and were too far away so I suggested it was a good time to take some family photos of me and the Goblin. We haven’t had a joint picture for years so I told the Goblin, “I want a nice picture of us. Don’t make any stupid faces!” That was a waste of breath…

He makes me laugh...
So much for that treasured shared moment...
By now I was laughing so hard...there was no hope.
By now I was laughing so hard...there was no hope.
My tactic of changing the pose...failed!
My tactic of changing the pose...failed!
It almost works...
At last a half way decent picture of the Goblin...pity I look superimposed. I'm his wife...really!
Clivey's photo of one of the cute sheep.
The Goblin's photo of one of the sheep...they're so cute, even if they do sheepoo everywhere. One day I'd love to have a small flock of sheep. Though being a lazy wench I'd have to hire someone to take care of them. The cheaper option? Smiling at other people's sheep!

    Thank you Cari, for sharing your thoughts with us. I really enjoy reading your blog. I have a brand new computer and I’m scared stiff of it. I am signing up for a class at the local college, meanwhile I’m exploring how-to set up a blog. On a lighter note, do you think the faces made by your goblin scared the web page? I laughed so much, my co-workers peeked in my office to see what was so funny. I didn’t share the pictures with them. He is quite a character, your goblin. Take care, p.s. thanks for the other pictures, they are beautiful. Victoria

    @Victoria
    I don’t think the Goblin can scare web pages. Computers purr when he comes near. I swear computers hates me…they do weird things of their own accord and refuse to work (repeatedly) and then he’ll come sit down and touch the keyboard and voila…works fine. Truly! I’ve recently been upgraded to one of those small apple computers…last week I could have cheerfully (and easily) hurled it with force out the window. I really should take course on how to use it, but I’m a techno-idiot. It would be painful. I had to put a friend’s phone number on my moblile/cell phone last week and it took me fifteen minutes. If I ever bother to add a third number it’ll probably take me another fifteen minutes.

    As for wedding pictures; a friend of mine took a few and several came out, but we didn’t have a wedding photographer and this was pre-digital back in ’97 so I’ll have to get a scanner before I can share the precious moments. I’d designed my olive green wool dress (a high wasted long gown with an octagon cut out of the neckline in the front which you couldn’t really see because I’d borrowed a funky shimmering greenish striped scarf and tucked it around my shoulders under the dress. It looked better than it sounds. The night before I made myself a crown of roses (my time spent working in a costume/balloon/flower shop came in handy) except I made it too big so it hung down onto my back…at least I couldn’t blame anyone else and I had my crown of white roses and the right Goblin so it worked out. We were both late. The Goblin didn’t have a car so a friend picked him up and then came to pick me up. We ran up the aisle together. He bought our first car a few months later on my birthday, we didn’t have it long as it was stolen and used in a robbery. That was a blessing! It was a piece of rubbish. I think I threw away my wedding dress after deciding I hated olive green. Now of course I wish I’d kept it, just for a laugh.
