If you’ve read my free story Lucky in Love and you enjoyed The Duke of Strathmore or my other stories with his cousin The Duke of Lyndhurst you might find this interesting. I thought I’d watch a Miss Marple mystery while eating my dinner (I worked all day on Dancing the Maypole…I’m nearly done with chapter 14). So I went onto Youtube and realised I couldn’t remember how The Moving Finger ended so I clicked on the new version of it with Geraldine McEwan. If like me you’re a die hard Joan Hickson as Miss Marple fan the new versions aren’t as good, but they’re not bad.
It started and after awhile I realised I knew the face of the man playing the narator. If you’ve never heard of James D’arcy he’s a really good English actor. He also happens to be beautiful. I’ll never forget the first time I saw him some years back in some war film. He was younger, more slender and he had black hair and he looked almost exactly like the Geoffrey in my head. Which means he looks like Strathmore as well because the cousins look very similar (it’s the Stratton blood), or at least they did before Geoffrey’s lifestyle choices made him hideous. In this film D’arcy has brown hair, but if you imagine him with black hair…that’s Geoffrey’s face when he was a young beautiful boy.
I thought I’d look him up on google images and found this one which he’s in Regency dress…lovely!
What do you think? Does he look like Strathmore or Lyndhurst to you?
or to watch the Miss Marple show click here
I actually came across a photo in a newspaper magazine last year of a man who looked like an older Geoffrey ie The Devil’s corpse (he face wasn’t the colour of sour milk, but he did have dark circles under his eyes). I looked at the man’s face and thought, “You look like hell!” Never having heard of the man, I looked him up and found that he really was completely debauched. His face wasn’t lying! In the end he’d killed himself and his favorite song? The Rolling Stones, “Sympathy for the Devil”. Is that weird or what? I won’t give his name out of respect to his family, but that was kind of freaky.

I would think Geoffrey would look more handsome, in his youth, but I am only the reader not the writer.

I looked at some other pictures of him and I take it back he deffinently could go for Geoffrey. hahaa

Sarah…you make me laugh. James D’arcy isn’t Geoffrey so he’s not 100% right, but he’s very close to my mental picture…of Geoffrey BEFORE he lost his looks and ended up being called The Devil’s Corpse. Minor details. Strangely, every time I see a man who sort of has Geoffrey’s face he’s always tall/slender. Strange as Geoffrey is also tall and slender. I wonder if certain faces go with certain body types…hmmm?
Did I ever show you that picture of the man who I think looks like Cecil Smirke?

I had a look at your net forum…Nice Pictures of Darcy!!!! If anyone wants to see some better pictures of Geoffrey and Strathmore…have a look!
I love those Regency paintings you used, especially the one of the man in a blue coat wearing buff breeches sitting on his overcoat (one of my favorite paintings). Why can’t men dress like that today? Modern menswear is SO boring. I love men in red. I managed to persuade my Goblin that he’d look smashing in a pair of red shorts (and he would) but when he tried them on they were all tooooo tight…heavy sigh…one of these days! Thanks for the lovely mention on your net forum!!!
