My sister Becky…

July 5, 2011 By Cari

Some people don’t have sisters. Some people have sisters and wish they didn’t have sisters. Some lucky people, like me, have sisters who are amazing lovely people. My sister Becky is two years younger than me. I can’t remember a time she wasn’t a part of my life. It’s been three years since we were last together, but finally she was able to come for a visit. She’s been here about a week and we have another week of adventures before we have to take her back to the airport and watch her fly away. I had to share a few photos of our adventures. I’ll note which ones are hers…

Castle Rising, Norfolk England
This past Saturday we went to Castle Rising in Norfolk (2nd of July). When we arrived we found that they were having a medieval re-enactment day (the troop is called Knights of Honour). Thankfully we came early as later in the afternoon they were expecting a large crowd. It was a gorgeous day and the light was perfect...lots of shadows in the castle!

To the kitchens and guardrobes...I loved the shadows...
The parts of the castle that were once the great halls are all gone, rotted away, but most of the stone passages around it survive. This one leads to the kitchens and garderobes (the toilets). I loved the shadows of the safety rail over the uneven floor.

Becky's shot of a future hero...
Becky captured this future hero, the youngest Knight of Honour! She took the next one too. Isn't he adorable? He's being held by his Aunt.

Posing for Becky...I keep telling her she's a talented photographer!

Me and Becky in a magical Georgian mirror...
Yesterday, as we were in Stamford, I had to show her my favorite mirror. This is a magic mirror! It makes you look slimmer and better looking. Either that or I really look like this...well one can hope! If you don't believe me go and have a look yourself. It's located at the Stamford (Lincolnshire) Art Center just off to the left of the inner entrance into the Georgian Assembly room.
A close up...
Beware: this mirror will make you take silly photographs of yourself...unless you have a sister like mine you may even end up standing there for hours...she agrees though that it was a stunning magical mirror.
In an
At the Stamford antique market place on the hill I saw this old mirror and had to take a photo...just to compare with my favorite mirror! It's not as good, but still better than the awful things you buy in the shops these days. Frankly why does anyone buy a large new mirror when they could buy a large old magical mirror? Alright, enough mirrors for now. I haven't been writing since Becky arrived as we've been talking talking talking, but I left the hero and heroine of Dancing the Maypole (near the end of chapter 38) in a tight corner so I'm excited to find out how they resolve their latest dilemma. That will help ease my sister's parting...precious weeks always fly by!

Wow, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a picture of your sister before because I would have said earlier how similar you two look. Super fun. I think my sisters and I should have a holiday together too. You’d be one of the invitee’s of course. 🙂

Also, I wonder if you guys had the where-with-all to get that ladies email. As a mom I would love, love, love to have such an adorable picture of my child… and, as a mom, to know that one might be floating around without me being able to frame it might very well do me in. 🙂 You should hunt her down.

I was excited to see a blog up from you!

    @cannwin
Hello Charity, I’d so want to be there at your sister-gathering! Be assured, We did e-mail a number of photos to the lady. I hope she gets them.
If I was her, I’d want copies! 🙂 We’re off on another adventure shortly. Hopefully we’ll find where we’re supposed to stand to catch the bus. Apparently it just stops for people…or not as the case might be. If not we’ll probably just stand there and keep talking! 🙂
