Shadowland…

October 23, 2009 By Cari

Being ill, I slept in ’till one and then sat here still undressed as the clock closed on four. Getting up I looked out the window and admired the fading October sunlight falling through the leaves behind our house. The property behind us has a rusty corrugated iron shed piled on one side with abandoned junk, but the back which faces the setting sun is clear. I threw on some clothes, grabbed the camera and went to take pictures of the light through the leaves, but by the time I got outside the sun had already set too low ruining my initial shots. I stood there feeling slightly irritated and then I noticed my shadow against the back of the corrigated shed. I took a few shots then stepped back and noticed how my shadow legs elongated…with the light and green and brown leaves it made me think how our shadows lead alternative lives. They’re like us, only different. What does my shadow get up to when I’m not looking?

Not knowing if any of the shots would turn out I decided to photograph my shadow’s portrait. The weird line coming out of my head is a chopstick keeping my hair up at least its a chop stick in this universe…it might be my shadow’s magic wand…or some sort of electric receiver that downloads information directly into the brain…or it might be a chopstick! I had to share some of my photos. What do you think your shadow gets up to when you’re not looking?

Spot the chopstick?

    That is so much fun! I absolutely love how creative you are. I’ve never thought of my shadow like that. I love the idea of it having a magic wand.

    Unfortunately I usually wear my hair in one of those almost pulled through pony tails so I get all these prickly hairs flying everywhere in my shadow… I wonder if it is half porcupine.

    I will have to take some pics of it too and do a blog about it. Just for you.

    PS do you have a widget? You should have a widget so I can put it on my blog 🙂

    @charity
    You made me laugh! I can see your shadow being half hedgehog…hmmm that might make an interesing Sci-fi story…two worlds in one…but the shadow world is a weird patchwork of what we think of as reality…so instead of arms, the shadows have tentacles…or ribbons…can you tell I have a fever?

    I don’t know what a widget is…so I think that means I don’t have one though I’ll have to ask Clivey…is it that thingy you have on your blog? I could ask him to make me one…when he’s in a good mood. He’s not feeling well either.

    yes! the thingy I have on my blog. With a cute design and all. I could make you one… I just googled ‘make my own widget’ (or something– they are also called grab buttons) and you get all these html help sites that show you exactly how to make one. It’s very fun. Perhaps you ought to ask you goblin though because I’m very very amateur at the whole computer lingo stuff.

    Hope you are feeling better and that it doesn’t turn swinish. 😉

    hahaha my captcha today is ‘4 million lashes’
