Which Jayne Austen Character Are You?

March 1, 2009 By Cari

I woke up in the middle of the night and couldn’t fall back to sleep so I eventually got up. I read the BBC news while I ate some uncooked oatmeal sans sugar (I’m so good). But after perusing it for a few minutes I decided I didn’t really need to read one more article about the English economy being driven into an economic black hole by the present unelected Prime Minister (at least by the general population…a handful of (aliens?) voted for him up in Scotland. Mr Blair stepped down mid-term and Mr Brown elected himself as leader and the Labour party let him take the big chair instead of calling a General Election and giving taxpayers a say. Anyway, I decided I’d had enough and went to check out Austenprose (If you love Jayne Austen’s novels this is a really good blog). Some of the comments mentioned a quiz called Which Jane Austen Heroine are you?

I love taking personality tests and I love Jane Austen! The answer is a percentile of character traits shared with various female characters (both main and minor) in Jayne Austen’s books. These were my answers…

Eliza Bennet 69%
Emma Woodhouse 34%
Marianne Dashwood 34%
Elinor Dashwood 34%
Charlotte Lucas 28%
Jane Bennet 28%
Lady Catherin 16%

I love it…I’m 16% like Lady Catherin DeBurgh! I’m surprised it’s not more. I love Eliza Bennet…it’s rather nice to think I might be 70% like her. Though I’m surprised Anne (of Persusion…her last name escapes my dead brain) isn’t on the list. So who are you most like? I must admit I’m glad I’m no more than 34% (did it have to be that high?) like Emma Woodhouse…she irritates me! Hmmm? Could this be some subconscious rejection of my more irritating qualities? Hmmm?

Sorry about that Esperity! I didn’t intend to torture people…I’ve taken out the link as it wasn’t working at all. I shall get the Goblin to fix it, in the mean time I hope you find the quiz via your webbrowser: type in

    You Scored as Emma Woodhouse

Emma is possibly one of the most loyal characters of Austen, always wanting better for those around her and doing all she possibly can to make it happen. Her motives sometimes get in the way of her good intentions and her own opinions can end up ruling her actions, but she has a good heart. She loves to be social and is welcoming to most, unless they are too silly to tolerate. While she sometimes changes her behavior to make others feel comfortable, she knows who she is and is always bettering herself.

    Emma Woodhouse
    63%
    Elinor Dashwood
    53%
    Jane Bennet
    50%
    Marianne Dashwood
    50%
    Elizabeth Bennet
    50%
    Charlotte Lucas
    34%
    Lady Catherine
    16%

Blah! I can’t stand Emma, she drives me nuts! I wish I was Wentworth’s Ann, hmm, or maybe Elizabeth Bennett

I’m so glad you said that…I can’t stand Emma either…but you and I share 16% of Lady Catherine De Burgh (I wonder which 16% you have…I probably have the worst16% of her…he he he…I love it! I wanted to be like Anne too though Elinor Dashwood is a lovely person and so is Jane Bennet. I really like her…I can see how you’d be 50% like her…and I like Charlotte Lucas even if she did decide to end her old maid-dom and marry that Vicar. You could say you share all the good qualities with Emma and leave her the bad!
