After leaving High School I moved to Portland, Oregon to study fashion design. I actually graduated (I understand only about six of us did), but I haven’t yet used my degree unless you count my time in a costume shop where after three Halloweens my love of dressing up was savaged into oblivion. I never expected to start my fashion design company until I was in my 40’s so techincally you could say I’m still on target…unless I fall on my head and forget I’m a designer or I die before I can prove to the world I’m as good as I think I am. Yes, my teachers loved me! Can you feel the sarcasm? During my second year we had to find and serve a short internship with an actual fashion design company. I dreaded the whole idea of finding a place so I put it off until one day I turned down this small lane I’d never walked down before [Read more…] about Memories collide at The 24 hour Church of Elvis…

Beam me up Scotty, I’ve got the hat!
Tonight I watched Star Trek the Next Generation on Youtube as I ate my dinner. There are some really cruel people in the world. You start watching an episode because it says 1 of 5 or 3 of 6 (I jumped into the middle) and then you can’t find the rest of the story! I searched…nothing. That’s heartless! I’ll now have to go buy the whole series just to watch the end of two episodes. My dad would be proud. Heck, I could probably call him up and ask him how the episodes end. He had a massive stroke about two years ago which means he can’t remember what he’s doing from one minute to the next, but he can remember important things like Star Trek story lines. I’d e-mail him and ask him, but he changed his e-mail address and then forgot to tell everyone…same with his phone number. I wonder if he wonders why no one calls?
Watching Star Trek used to be our family’s equivalent of a vacation (we almost never went anywhere together except for the rare visit to dad’s family up in Seattle which was usually traumatic. The trauma arose out of having to function in situations that required in depth social skills…skills neither of my parents possessed so couldn’t pass on.) Star Trek was like a vacation because [Read more…] about Beam me up Scotty, I’ve got the hat!
Which Jayne Austen Character Are You?
I woke up in the middle of the night and couldn’t fall back to sleep so I eventually got up. I read the BBC news while I ate some uncooked oatmeal sans sugar (I’m so good). But after perusing it for a few minutes I decided I didn’t really need to read one more article about the English economy being driven into an economic black hole by the present unelected Prime Minister (at least by the general population…a handful of (aliens?) voted for him up in Scotland. Mr Blair stepped down mid-term and Mr Brown elected himself as leader and the Labour party let him take the big chair instead of calling a General Election and giving taxpayers a say. Anyway, I decided I’d had enough and went to check out Austenprose (If you love Jayne Austen’s novels this is a really good blog). Some of the comments mentioned a quiz called Which Jane Austen Heroine are you? [Read more…] about Which Jayne Austen Character Are You?
Cough Cough…getting better!
I’m still recovering from an evil head/chest cold. For most of the last week and a half I’ve done nothing beyond sit here (I literally sat at my desk for nearly three days straight because I couldn’t lay down without drowning in my flem). So I sat here and read The Daily Telegraph and other online newspapers and visited numerous blogs where I’m afraid I left insane ramblings. So if you come to this blog out of curiosity to know what sort of psycho I am…I’m completely normal I assure you!
So I’m getting better which means my rationality is returning…yes I am rational. What? You don’t believe me? I assure I’m very logical, at least to me! Just because my professor in that Pascal logic class I took at University (because my friend told me it was easy) after he graded my final test he looked at me with a blank expression and told me he hoped I wasn’t planning on becoming a Logician – this doesn’t mean I’m illogical! Do you think he looks like Strathmore or Lyndhurst?
If you’ve read my free story Lucky in Love and you enjoyed The Duke of Strathmore or my other stories with his cousin The Duke of Lyndhurst you might find this interesting. I thought I’d watch a Miss Marple mystery while eating my dinner (I worked all day on Dancing the Maypole…I’m nearly done with chapter 14). So I went onto Youtube and realised I couldn’t remember how The Moving Finger ended so I clicked on the new version of it with Geraldine McEwan. If like me you’re a die hard Joan Hickson as Miss Marple fan the new versions aren’t as good, but they’re not bad.
It started and after awhile I realised I knew the face of the man playing the narator. If you’ve never heard of James D’arcy he’s a really good English actor. [Read more…] about Do you think he looks like Strathmore or Lyndhurst?
A Day in London
Last Tuesday I spent the day in London. I was early for the morning 9:26 train so I sat there in the cold watching endless people come and go almost all of them wearing black or at least some sort of black coat. I felt like I was on the set of The Damned. I must have looked like a circus freak in my happy multi-coloured striped wool sweater (my Fairy godmother sent it to me for Christmas) worn over my bright orange sweater (they really do match). My sister Sarah will be relieved to hear I did NOT wear my white knitted cap that rides up and makes me look like I dream of being the Pope. My hair looked really good and I felt really beautiful! It was probably the magic lipstick my Fairy godmother also sent me (I have an amazing Fairy godmother). So there I was all Joseph and his Amazing coloured dream-sweater and trying to remember not to put my feet on the opposite train seat because they arrest people for that heinous crime over here and I don’t really want a police record. The ruling Labour Government, when they were at school all read George Orwell’s 1984 and mistook it as a handbook. It must be true because they seem determined to recreate it, but never mind the unelected Mr Brown and his mindless-minions. I’d decided I was going to have a fantastic day.
